Programme

Calpe and District 41 Club

This page reviews the schedule of the weekend – 31st October to 3rd November 2019.

IMG_7866We are staying at the award winning Gran Hotel Sol y Mar — https://granhotelsolymar.com/en/. The spa hotel is located in the heart of Calpe, right by the town beach. If you are flying we do not recommend hiring a car. In the “Getting there” section we give options for getting from the airport. If you are driving and prefer not to pay to park that same section gives options for free parking, a few minutes walk away.

We have negotiated 3, 2 and 1 night packages, with extra nights available. Click the Booking tab (above) for price and booking information

Thursday

Registration – Please visit the Cluster registration desk in the Hotel, between 3pm and 6pm on Thursday, or 4pm and 6pm on Friday November 1st to confirm your arrival, collect your welcome pack and final information (and your badge of course).

Dinner – In the evening, for those who have booked, we will be dining out at local restaurants, in Calpe’s “Little Italy” area, just a short walk from the hotel. If you have registered to join us for the informal dinner on Thursday evening you will receive menu choices and joining instructions directly. We are in 2 groups for this meal.

Friday

For those arriving on Friday, Cluster Registration will be open from 4pm to 6pm in the Hotel.

For those already registered, we have organised an optional coach trip to Guadalest. For more information visit this site – http://www.alicante-spotlight.com/costa-blanca/guadalest.htm.

If you have received confirmation of your booking on the special visit to Guadalest, please meet Malcolm Lee and Alec Everett, with your fellow travellers, in reception at 10am, ready for a punctual departure. Do please remember that 1st November is a public holiday (All Saints day).

1-1We’ll return from Guadalest in time for a short siesta before gathering for our Wine Reception, at 7.30pm, in the Skybar, at nearby sister hotel, Suitopia, followed by an International market themed dinner in the Suitopia Gran Salon, and by great music for dancing (with a cash bar). Why not go with the international theme, and wear something to depict a country that you love.

There are plenty of alternative activities in and around this delightful part of Spain’s Costa Blanca. Visit – http://www.calpeonline24.com. But be aware that 1st November is All Saints Day, a public holiday in Spain.

Saturday

The day begins with the hotel’s legendary buffet breakfast – enough to get us back on our feet, and to keep us going. Obviously the only reason that you are joining us is the The Iberian 41 Club AGM, which will follow the leisurely breakfast, at 09.30, in the Sportbar. Chairmen jewels of office should be worn. See the agenda below this page. We hope to show the Rugby World Cup final after the meeting (with cash bar). But if that fails there are other bars nearby showing the game.

The ladies can while away this hour or so by relaxing or visiting the hotel Spa, walking (and shopping?) in Calpe, or wandering off to one of Calpe’s famous markets. Click “Discover Calpe”, or “Shopping” on the http://www.calpeonline24.com site for more information. Coffee is organised for our partners in a dedicated lounge area.

Anfora Buffet mesasThe rest of the day is your own. You can snooze it away, try out any of the many local bars, cafes or restaurants, or maybe explore a little further. There is much to see.

When considering lunch (after that amazing breakfast spread) do bear in mind that we are meeting in the evening for our img_5956Gala Drinks Reception, at 7pm, in the hotel’s fabulous champagne and gin bar, Dorée, followed by our formal Gala Dinner, with good food and top entertainment to dance the night away (and a cash bar after dinner). As well as a great band for dancing, our entertainment is one of the best Abba tribute bands. “Here we go again” seems so appropriate. Mama Mia!!!

Sunday

Buffet con comida AnforaThe hotel breakfast is the opportunity to say your farewells. For the lucky few staying a few extra days at the hotel after the Cluster… Enjoy!

We, at the Calpe and District 41 Club, hope you enjoy the Cluster and that you have a safe trip home.
